Places to Visit

restaurant_resto4_BG48One place in which I would have to find myself one afternoon, should I ever get to travel to Europe, is the Café Procope, the oldest restaurant in Paris. Café Procope, located in rue de l’Ancienne Comédie, 6ème arrondissement, is the oldest restaurant of Paris, opened in 1686 by the Sicilian Francesco Procopio dei Coltelli, and is celebrated as the oldest literary café. (For a complete description of this restaurant’s history, look here.) That is three centuries of history, sprinkled by such names as Diderot, Rousseau, Voltaire, Verlaine, and even Benjamin Franklin.

I can imagine myself ordering Les Escargots de Bourgogne dans leur Coquille to start with, then Epaule d’Agneau ” de 7 Heures ” en Cocotte (shoulder of lamb), Le Fromage Affiné par Marie-Anne Cantin, Pompon de Salade (cheese, salad), and for dessert, Coupe Glacée du ” Café Procope “.

And of course, I would have to be certain to have along an unobtrusive camera and my Moleskine notebook, to document my visit.
