Moving from LiveJournal to WordPress.com

Last night I finally got tired enough of trying to work with LiveJournal, where I had my blog, to do something about it. I don’t like having a picture attached to each and every posting; it is too cluttered and it created “creative stresses” for me in trying to pick the appropriate picture to go with each post. Also, the LiveJournal-hosted sites do not have any search capabilities, which is very frustrating.

Before setting up my blog at the free LiveJournal service, I had several blogs that I maintained on my own, on hosted servers, using the software of my choice, and customized with templates, tools and add-ons. The blogging software that I used then was the excellent, free WordPress software, and I was very happy with it. Since going back to paying for server space at a hosting service is not an option for me at the moment, I decided to move to the free WordPress.com blog hosting site. As must be obvious from the names, the blogs created at WordPress.com are created and managed using the same WordPress software; there just is not the flexibility to customize that I had when I was “doing my own thing”. I could pay a small fee to “upgrade” and be able to do some customizing, but I don’t really need to. The options available for templates for the site’s look and feel are just fine for me. Free is good. WordPress.com is great.
