To the Library; To the Bookstore
I had one of my sons take me to the library and bookstore this morning. I was getting light-headed, and the buzzing in my ears was much louder than usual; I think that I must be having withdrawal symptoms from a couple of medications, one that I stopped taking per doctor’s orders, and two that I ran out of last week. It is an unpleasant experience, to say the least.
As I was saying, I went to the library first, where I picked up a couple of CD’s that I’d had put on hold for me, and also grabbed four books off of the shelfs. The first book that I grabbed is a new book, Dark Moon Defender, by Sharon Shinn. This is a fantasy fiction book, the third in Shinn’s “Twelve Houses” series. I thoroughly enjoyed the first two installments (Mystic and Rider, and The Thirteenth House), as I’ve enjoyed all of her books so far, so was excited to see this one on the shelf.
I have on (pre)order “Deliverer“, the ninth installment of C.J. Cherryh’s “Foreigner Universe“, so I decided that it was time to reread the entire series so that the story would be fresh in my mind come February, when the new book will be released to the public. I grabbed the first three off of the shelf; Foreigner, Invader, and Inheritor.
At Barnes & Noble it was quite crowded; too crowded for me, so I just grabbed what I knew I wanted off of the shelf, paid up, and ran for it. I went there to pick up a new Moleskine notebook (the large plain version this time), and a three-pack of the small Moleskine “Cahier” (pronounced “kaa-yay”) notebooks. No, that’s not a misspelling, it really is “Cahier”, not cashier, and I have no idea what it means, if anything – it does not appear in the on-line Italian-English dictionary that I checked. (The manufacturer of the Moleskine is an Italian company, Modo e Modo). I opted for the Cahier notebook this time because it is a) much less expensive ($6.95 per 3-pack vs $9.95 for one Moleskine Pocket Notebook), and b) because I want to ‘try out’ the small pocket size to see if I like it for keeping in my pocket. I’m not finding the 3×5 cards as usable as I originally expected. I’m thinking that a small notebook like this will be much more convenient for general use – notes, lists, to-do’s, etc.
I also grabbed two magazines at B&N, the February issue (February already!) of Blade magazine, and the December issue of Wooden Boat magazine. The Wooden Boat was my nod to impulse buys.
I’m still reading Language in Danger and The Warrior Prophet, and I have a large stack of “to be read” books that I own, so I’ll need to get a move on with my reading.
